What's been happening at my place

Well as I am turning 55 in January I have decided to throw a surprise 55th birthday for myself. I will have to organise it myself as no one else will.

I told my daughter that I would have to have the party at her house otherwise I may catch myself planning, cooking, ordering food etc and that would spoil the surprise and I wouldn’t want that.

Expect lots of photos as I franticly try to hide from myself what is happening. LOL

I tried to make a wish list, should someone want to buy me something and I only came up with three items. Gold movie pass, bras or a current photo of the guest to put on my wall of fame.

I could ask for material however I want to use what I have first, well some of it. I am planning to make lots of quilts next year I have decided the whole year is going to be spectacular to make up for the cruddy one this year.

So roll on 2008 so I can start.

I have already started on my To Do List.

1. I will have my Heart Quilt ready to hand quilt at the Perth Retreat in May.

2. I also want to have finished two other WIP quilts.

3. I want to start one other quilt

Who knows there may be more to do? I will just have to wait I guess.

As you can see I have added a countdown Christmas tree and I am now on the look out for a countdown to my Surprise Birthday Party just not sure where to look on the net yet.

I bought a brand new top of the range (well as close to the top as I could afford LOL) ironing board. The one I have DH had when we met 15 years ago and it wobbles all the time. It didn’t matter when I was working as I sent my ironing out and did my material on the bench (I padded it first) however now I no longer have clothes to iron but ironing my material on the kitchen bench kills my back and makes my new knee ache so a new ironing board was needed.

I have pinned the rest of my Hearts together and plan on sewing them today however the morning is gone as DH’s shower lady is due sometime before 12.30. After that though I will be off and running, well running in and out with washing (Mount Washmore is driving me nuts) and I also want to do some housework, yeah I know not really a good idea, however I only do it when I am in the mood or in short 15 minute burst and I haven’t done any all week.

PICTURES OF SOME OF MY HEARTS QUILT

I have been busy all day making Hearts to send out, I am way behind and also doing some sewing on my own Hearts Quilt.

These are some of the hearts I finished:

I took some photos of some of the blocks I have joined in my Heart Quilt.

The pattern is used is Attic Windows. I have used a marble Purple and a plain bright yellow. I intend to quilt on the yellow borders.

Here is a photo of the first two rows of the block. The two rows are not joined yet.

This is photo of one of the many blocks I received.

I also spent some time downloading themes, stationery and wallpaper for my mum. She is known as the ”Trendy Nan” within the family circle as she is 77 as still learning, kickboxing, gym 5 days a week, computers, embroidery machines etc.

I have the cleaning women, the Silverchain carer to shower David coming in the morning so nothing will get done till later in the afternoon.

Hopefully I will get more done tonight.

I joined the Birthday Swap

Well I today I took the plunge today and joined the Birthday Swap run via QDU. The hostess Suzy sounds like a great gal. I am really looking forward to it. I am having a biggie this January, 55, and as I will have to organise my own surprise party, if I have one, I think some Fat Quarters is a better idea.

Well what an evening. My sweet SIL (son-in-law who works up north) rang to say ‘don’t panic but I can’t find Jo (DD). Of course I did panic as any good mother would. After much phoning around it came out that he hadn’t listened to her when she said she was going to buy a car tonight! I will laugh about it tomorrow however right now I am annoyed with him for not listening and me for panicking.

As we had the Silverchain people for Hubby in all I was able to do quilting wise was tidy up a little material.

Not much quilting but I did go material shopping!

First I must say thank you to all who have left a comment. I am not sure how or if I can reply to them so for the moment a group thank you is all I can do. It was very encouraging to hear from you all. A special thank you to the people who told me this would be addictive. You were right. I have changed the whole look of my blog since yesterday.

Well so far today I haven’t done any quilting however I did go material shopping.

Yes I know I had 12 yards arrive yesterday however I needed a purple material for a little girl who is 5 and I didn’t have anything appropriate. I had purple marbles, fossil ferns, pansy, violets even iris’ but nothing that would suit a little girl.

So off I went to Carol’s in Midland. There wasn’t much to choose from, not because there wasn’t many bolts of material but because I needed a specific piece. Eventually I found a nice piece with ballerina’s on it some in purple tutu, on a cream background. So I brought a fat quarter and came home.

I also bought a metre of cream quilters’ muslin as I had run out and was going to sew the hearts onto cream calico as that was all I had.

I also learned today that price of material is unlikely to fall later in the year, even though the AU dollar is good, due to the fact that the reps the shops buy from will reap the benefits not the shop. Pity really as I was hoping for lower price materials. Oh well guess my stash won’t grow as quick as I planned.

Now I am off to wash the material and get it ready to send.

After I watch Simply Quilts I am off to sew some of my Hearts Quilt together. I must find the cord that connects my ‘puter to my camera.

My First Post

Well this is my quilting blog. I am hoping to be encouraged to quilt more and blog/brag about it.

I have just received a parcel from Equilter in the US of material. None of the material was available Downunder. It is a total of 12 yards however no freebie which I have always received from other US shops.

At the moment I am working on my Heart’s Quilt. These are the Hearts I received earlier this year when I as having a rotten time of it. It hasn’t gotten any better but looking at the Hearts and working on them reminds me that it will get better. I am planning on taking a photo of what I have done so far and will post it as soon as I can.

Today is going to be 39 deg (and it was already 33 at 10.20am) so I am planning to work on my Hearts a lot more.

However before I do that I have to wait for David’s Silverchain carer to come and shower him. Then the day is mine, well some of it.

Here is a quilt that I made for my union reps baby. It was planned on being a pastel quilt however the quilt had a mind of its own.

He and his wife loved it. Especially as I wrote a note explaining how to wash it and added the poem “You can sit on my quilt”
